One of the Top 20 Home Care Groups in 2025 - homecare.co.uk

The ladies looking after my mother were genuinely caring, and she enjoyed their company. They were always conscientious and were kept well informed of her needs as they changed. We appreciated their reliability and experience.

Julia H (Daughter of Client)

The care is excellent and my mother is very happy with her care givers and looks forward to their visits. All carers are kind, empathetic and proactive - the managers and office staff are the same. I cannot recommend Unique Senior Care highly enough.

Judy R (Daughter of Client)

I am very happy with the service. The caregivers are always happy, friendly and very good at their jobs. I always feel safe with them and I look forward to them coming.

Robert W (Client / Service User)

We have been using Unique for 18 months now and are very pleased with them. My father adores his current pair of alternating carers and nothing is too much trouble, either from them or from their manager.

Sarah W (Daughter of Client)

Unique have been brilliant. Everything I said we needed has been provided in a friendly, professional and cheerful manner. I was concerned that my wife would struggle to accept help but the lady who comes is the same one each time, which was something we requested, has built up a good relationship with her.

Neville R (Husband of Client)

Unique have brought peace of mind with their professional and very caring service. From the first phone call, and then every subsequent staff member I met, gave me a feeling of confidence. I now personally understand why Unique comes highly recommended as I too have nothing but praise for the service offered by Unique.

What is live-in care and is it right for you?

Live-in care means having a dedicated Caregiver move into your or your loved one’s home to provide full-time assistance and support. We know the majority of individuals would prefer to stay in their home when given the choice, and that’s exactly what our London live-in care service is designed to allow.

Is 24-hour live-in care suitable for my loved one?

Live-in care is a great alternative to residential care for those who need ongoing support and companionship but want to stay in the comfort and familiarity of their own home and the places they love. Whether your loved one enjoys the village feel of Crouch End or the green open spaces of Wimbledon, they can continue their usual routines while receiving the care they need at home.

This type of support is especially beneficial for those with long-term health conditions or limited mobility. Between the adjustment period that comes with moving into unfamiliar surroundings and the disruption to routines, moving into residential care often only adds stress, which can exacerbate illness and health conditions. With live-in care, your loved one can get the support they need without the upheaval.

What does a live-in carer do?

Residential care is not the only option for elderly loved ones who struggle with daily tasks. And, most of the time, it’s not the best option, either. Our London live-in carers do more than provide essential support. Because care allows your loved one to stay put in the home they love, it can provide a new lease of life. Your loved one gets the physical assistance and emotional reassurance they need while retaining their independence and routines.

But, what does that look like?

Live-in care looks different to every individual, as it should. Our support is customised to individual needs and easily adaptable to changing situations.

That said, it often involves:

  • Personal care: Assisting with washing, dressing, and grooming.

  • Medication assistance: Ensuring medications are taken safely and on time.

  • Meal preparation: Preparing meals that suit dietary preferences.

  • Monitoring wellbeing: Watching for health changes and raising concerns to prevent issues or ensure early intervention.

  • Companionship: Offering conversation, company, and reassurance.

  • Mobility support: Assisting with safe movement indoors and out.

  • Housekeeping: Keeping the home tidy, clean, and comfortable.

  • Hobbies and social activities: Supporting hobbies and social outings.

Meet your London live-in Care Managers

Kate and Clare are our dedicated live-in Care Managers for North and South London, overseeing our live-in carers to ensure you get the outstanding care you deserve. But, they’re hands-on too, creating tailored care plans that meet your needs and working closely with you, your family, and your live-in Caregiver to make sure you feel heard and cared for.

Kate McGourlay, our Live-In Care Manager for North London, joined us in 2021 after a 30-year career as a paediatric sister. She brings extensive nursing knowledge and a warm, personal approach to supporting clients and Caregivers.

Kate creates tailored care plans, offers hands-on support to her team, and ensures every client has a voice. Outside work, she enjoys time with her husband, two daughters, and their Labrador, Ferdie. She finds real joy in hearing clients’ stories and seeing the positive difference live-in care can make.

Understanding live-in care costs in London

Live-in care offers a desirable option for those wishing to remain in their familiar home environment while receiving needed support. The costs for live-in care vary, reflecting factors like care needs, provider experience, and location.

What our pricing includes

  • Tailored care plans to meet individual needs
  • Emotional support and companionship
  • Help with daily activities: personal care, meal prep, light housework, and medication management
  • Specialist care for complex conditions like dementia and Parkinson’s
  • Regular check-ins and updates with family members
  • 24/7 support from a dedicated Care Manager
  • No minimum term or lengthy contracts

Why costs vary?

Several factors can affect live-in care pricing:

  • Regional factors

Costs can vary by area, with higher prices often found where demand for care is greater and local living costs are higher.

  • Care requirements

More intensive care, especially for complex conditions, increases costs due to the need for specialist support.

  • Type of provider

Regulated providers, overseen by the CQC, may charge more due to strict standards and detailed care management.

Funding support for live-in care

There are two main sources of funding support for live-in care:

  • Local authority contribution: Financial support may be offered, dependent on an assessment of care needs and financial circumstances.

  • NHS continuing healthcare:This covers all costs for those with substantial medical needs, following an NHS eligibility assessment.

Other financial support

Some benefits help with extra costs for health or disability:

  • Attendance allowance:  Weekly payments available for those over State Pension age who need assistance due to health or disability issues.

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP): Financial support for those aged 16 to State Pension age with ongoing health conditions or disabilities

How to find a live-in Caregiver in London

Choosing a live-in carer service is a personal choice, and there are many factors to consider when choosing the right provider.

Services offered

Ensure your provider offers the right level of support for your loved one’s needs.

For your loved one, this might include specialist support for a long-term health condition or illness.

Experience and reputation

Look for a provider with a strong track record, well-trained Caregivers, and positive client reviews.

Personalised matching

A good provider carefully pairs Caregivers with clients based on needs, personality, and mutual interests.

Regulatory standards

Choose a provider regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for safety and quality assurance.

Our London offices are rated Outstanding by the CQC, demonstrating our commitment to providing the best-quality care.

Quality monitoring

Enquire about a provider’s commitment to monitoring the quality of care and how often they conduct assessments to ensure standards are high and care is responsive to changing needs.

Emergency and contingency planning

A reliable provider should have backup plans in place if a Caregiver is unavailable to ensure continuous care and support.
